It was a weekend of unexpected excitement and triumph for 22 year old Josh Webster, who received a last minute phone call on Friday afternoon asking him to drive alongside Italian ex-F1 racing legend, Nicky Pastorelli, at the International GT Open at Spa Francorchamps in Spa, Belgium the following day.
All of the other teams were already at the circuit and had been testing and practicing for a few days, however Josh still qualified sixth on Saturday morning and between them, he and Pastorelli finished the race in second place! The following day they qualified to start in third place and despite torrential rain, Josh took first place at the finish line; a first win for the Renault RSO1 in the GT Open Series and his second win at Spa. This is an incredible achievement for the young driver who was the first novice and scholarship winner to win the Porsche Carrera Cup Championship in 2014.
Josh commented, “What a feeling to cross the line as the winners! The V8 Racing team and GP Extreme were absolutely delighted with the win and it felt amazing to be back on the top step of the podium at Spa alongside Nicky after such a fantastic race. Thank you to my partners, Nine Group, Zenith Vehicle Contracts, LA Micro and Workflow for their continued support.”
Josh is the son of Nick Webster, Nine Wholesale MD. Nick said, “Everyone at Nine is delighted by Josh’s victory. It is fantastic to see the Nine liveried suit on full display on the podium again on Sky TV.” Members of Nine’s Purple Partner Programme have often joined Nick and other Nine Directors to watch Josh at Silverstone and various other racetracks around the UK. Keep an eye out for the next invitation.
